Free Market
The Free Energy Market is a trading environment in which consumers can set prices, terms, volume and payment method directly with electricity generators or traders. The electricity sector in Brazil is divided into two environments: the Regulated Contracting Environment (ACR), formed by captive consumers, and the Free Contracting Environment (ACL), in which the free consumers of the Free Energy Market are located.
REGULATED CONTRACTING ENVIRONMENT (ACR)
The ACR is made up of captive consumers, who can buy electricity only from the concessionaire responsible for distributing energy in the region. In the ACR, energy is purchased by distributors through auctions and the price is established by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).
GENERATOR > DISTRIBUTOR > CONSUMER
FREE CONTRACTING ENVIRONMENT (ACR)
The ACL is formed by free consumers. In this environment, consumers negotiate energy purchase conditions directly with generators or traders. The tariff with the distributor is regulated, but with the generator the price, term, volume and payment method are freely negotiated.
